Installation & Troubleshooting Techniques

Scroll through and watch the below videos to help with general installation and troubleshooting issues you may experience.

Installation - Properly Formed Weep Hole

What is a properly formed weep hole? A weep hole that has smooth inner walls and is not extra narrow or wide. For these types of weep holes simply pinch the ends of the cover together and insert them into the hole and push into place. If you find a weep hole without these characteristics, scroll thorugh our videos to find specific solutions.

Installation - Narrow Weep Holes

Why are some weep holes narrower than others? Quality of weep holes is determined by the brick layer. Rid-O-Mice has been designed with flexibility to allow for different height and width weep holes. Narrow weep holes require additoinal techniques which are covered in the below video.
Note: In the above video MB refers to ‘aluminum’. These are Stainless Steel not aluminum.

Installation - Improperly Formed Weep Holes

What is an improperly formed weep hole? A small percentage of our customers experience this and this is when the brick layer leaves excess mortar inside the weep hole. The amount of excess mortar can vary from light to very heavy. The very nature of a weep hole should not have excess mortar in the hole. This can reduce airflow and impeeds installation of covers. Excess mortar impeding installation is not a reflection of the performance of Rid-O-Mice. Once excess mortar is cleared properly, covers can be installed with relative ease.

Technique One - For Light Excess Mortar

Technique Two - Heavier Excess Mortar

ECXESS MORTAR ALSO TERMED 'TRASH MORTAR'

Trash Mortar

This home owner was not able to push Rid-O-Mice into the weep hole. He sent in this photo illuminated by a flash light and we were able to advise the importance to use a mortar drill to clear the following areas however ensuring drilling remain only inside the red box. Specifically, don’t drill mortar above nor below the brick line. The drill bit should never be on an upward nor downward angle. (Wear eye protection when drilling or prying with screw driver)

It is difficult to make the inner box square with a round drill bit, and that is why our covers have bevelled edges. With a little bit of work the home owner was able to clear the mortar, clean out the hole and install the covers. This work is fairly easy but you can always hire a handyman for a reasonable fee. NOTE: Always wear eye protection and gloves when drilling mortar.

How To Modify Cover Length

Sometimes Weep Holes Are Different Heights. This is easy to Manage By Cutting The Cover To The Needed Height. Wear Eye Protection And Gloves When Cutting. File Down The Sharp Cut Edges..

Cutting Ridomice Weep Hole Cover

Covers can be cut shorter for shorter holes or in the case of longer/taller holes you can place 1 full cover pushed to the bottom of hole and then cut a 2nd cover to the size of the remaining gap. Then reuse the remaing material in another hole.

NOTE: Always use gloves and eye protection when cutting and file down the sharp cut edges.
